A LOVE POEM LIKE NO OTHER
When he first saw her, his eyes held their breath.
The Longing in his heart knew no bounds.
It was beyond the beyond of love for mother,
father, sister or brother—an unfathomable bond—
he knew they were destined to be together
from before the earth began.
But she couldn’t say yes or no, stay or go
while the angels danced behind her back.
When the wake on the Staten Island ferry
began to look inviting—he considered suicide.
He told friends he couldn’t live without her.
A friend obliged, placing him in a choke hold
until he turned blue.
A moment before he passed out,
he signaled—he wants to live.
